In 2014, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) launched the Portfolio for Impact, an initiative that aimed to target early-stage investments with the potential to generate significant development impact. Originally, this was conceived as a relatively small program that would provide debt financing of up to $5 million to early-stage entrepreneurs who were not yet ready for larger investors.
